It stops young people from being pushed out of school and into the streets and the criminal justice system: Research shows that suspension triples the risk of contact with the juvenile justice system and juvenile incarceration, in turn, increases the risk of adult incarceration by 22 percentage points.  Thus when we simply stop suspending students, we directly turn off the spigot that feeds the pipeline to prison.
